Atte Mustonen third in British F3 at Monza

Räikkönen Robertson Racing's (Double R) F3 driver Atte Mustonen finished third in Sunday's leg of the British F3 round at Monza. In Saturday's race Atte was forced to retire after Sebastian Hohenthal drove into the back of Atte's car leaving the start line.

Saturday's qualifying sessions were held in the rain. Atte managed to secure himself two good starting positions, first claiming fourth on the grid for Saturday's start, and then going one better, staking his claim to a start from third on the grid for Sunday's race. The starting order for Saturday's race was Matteo Chinosi on pole, Max Chilton/Hitech Racing second and Sam Abay/Carlin Motorsport third, with Atte just behind these three on fourth. Sunday's starting order looked pretty much the same, with Max Chilton on pole, Matteo Chinosi second and Atte starting from third.

In a change from the usual F3 race weekend schedule, the meeting's first race was held on Saturday afternoon.The race started and ended badly for Atte; Sebastian Hohenthal/Fortec Motorsport rammed into the back of Atte's car leaving the grid, causing such chaos that several drivers had to retire from the race there and then. The first three drivers home were, in order, Sergio Perez/T-Sport, Brendon Hartley/Carlin Motorsport and Oliver Turvey/Carlin Motorsport.

Sunday's race was won by Sergio Perez/T-Sport, with Esteban Guerrieri/Ultimate Motorsport second and Atte/Double R a fine third.

"Unfortunately Saturday's race ended almost before it had begun. The DNF robbed me of some important points, which makes it doubly disappointing. On Sunday I gave it everything I'd got, and that was enough for third place”, said Mustonen after the race.

The next F3 race meeting will be at Rockingham on 26.5. Mustonen is currently third in the championship table on 48 points. Sergio Perez is leading the series with 80 points, and Oliver Turvey is second with 50 points.
