A convincing win for Atte Mustonen at Rockingham Räikkönen Robertson Racing's (Double R) F3 driver Atte Mustonen won the first leg of the British F3 round at Rockingham on Monday. Sunday's qualifying session was held in torrential rain on a seriously wet track. This caused no problems for Atte however, who posted second fastest qualifying time, securing himself second on the grid for Monday's first race. Pole position was claimed by Max Chilton/Hitech Racing, and third on the grid by Jaime Alguersuari/Carlin Motorsport. The first race of the meeting started on a dry track, under cloudy skies. Atte got a great start, immediately grabbing the lead. The heavens opened five laps from the end of the race, but no one was able to threaten Atte's lead, the young Finn eventually driving home to a convincing win. Second was Fortec Motorsport's Marcus Ericsson, with Carlin Motorsport's Jaime Alguersuari third. “We're here to win and today we did just that. The car still isn't all it could be in the dry, but through consistent hard work we got the result we wanted”, said Atte after his F3 triumph. The next race of the series will be contested this evening. Mustonen will start from fifth on the grid. |
